Independent director placements sit at the intersection of high stakes and high friction. Companies need directors with the right expertise, background, location, and profile. Directors need opportunities that match their experience and availability. And yet, the process of finding each other has historically relied on networks, word of mouth, and a lot of manual effort on both sides.

Guvrn wanted to change that with a dedicated platform. But building it came with a unique challenge that most SaaS products never have to think about:

  • The users are senior professionals, not tech natives. Company secretaries, C-suite executives, and seasoned independent directors are the primary users. A complex signup flow with forms, uploads, and multi-step verification is not something this audience will tolerate or complete. One unnecessary step and they are gone.
  • The data requirement is enormous. A meaningful independent director profile needs current board associations, past directorships, company affiliations, professional history, and verification details. Asking users to manually fill all of that is unrealistic. But skipping it means profiles are thin and the matching is weak.
  • Both sides of the marketplace need to onboard. Companies and independent directors have different data needs and different contexts. Building an experience that feels right for both, without building two separate products, required real thought.
  • Trust and verification are non-negotiable. In corporate governance, a profile that is unverified or inaccurate is worse than no profile at all. Background checks, profile verification, and association accuracy are baseline requirements, not optional extras.

We built Guvrn's platform around a single design principle: the most senior professional in the room should be able to sign up in under five seconds and have a complete, accurate profile waiting for them on the other side.

Here is how we made that happen:

  • A five-second signup powered by background automations. After creating an account with an email and password, an independent director enters just two things: their DIN (Director Identification Number) and their LinkedIn profile URL. That is it. Our automations then pull data from the MCA and LinkedIn in the background, aggregating it into a fully populated director profile covering current associations, past directorships, company affiliations, and professional history. No manual form filling. No uploads. No waiting.
  • The same logic on the company side. Companies and investors enter their CIN (Company Identification Number) and LinkedIn URL. The platform pulls and aggregates everything needed to build a complete company page that independent directors can browse and evaluate.
  • An AI matching and scoring layer. Profiles shown to companies are not just a list. They are ranked and filtered by an AI layer that generates a match score out of 100 for each director, based on relevance, location, sector experience, gender criteria, and any other parameters the company specifies. Companies see the best fits first, not just the most recent signups.
  • Offers, toolkits, and profile management built in. The platform lets both sides extend and receive offers, access governance toolkits, manage their profiles, and track their activity, all within an interface designed for users who have no patience for complexity.
  • Background verification and profile visibility. Directors can get verified and complete background checks through the platform, which increases their visibility in company searches. Trust is built into the product, not bolted on afterward.

We built the platform in two parallel tracks: the automation infrastructure that makes the five-second signup possible, and the product experience that directors and companies interact with day to day. Both tracks were designed to serve the same goal: remove every possible barrier between a user arriving on the platform and being ready to participate in the marketplace.

The results speak to how well that goal was achieved:

  • Signup went from a multi-step ordeal to a genuinely five-second experience, removing the single biggest barrier to adoption for a senior professional audience that has very little tolerance for friction.
  • Profile quality is high from day one because the automations do the heavy lifting. Directors do not have incomplete profiles because they skipped a form section. Companies do not see thin pages with missing history.
  • The AI match score transformed how companies browse directors. Instead of sifting through profiles manually, companies get a ranked, filtered view that reflects their actual criteria. The platform does the shortlisting for them.
  • Both sides of the marketplace have a reason to engage, because the platform is genuinely useful from the moment they land, not after they have spent an hour filling in their details.
  • Guvrn now has a product that is genuinely differentiated in a space that has historically relied on networks and consultants, with automation and AI doing the work that used to require significant human effort on both sides.
